Today’s update comes from Will, who took on a new role in Wednesday’s clinic.
Hey guys this is Will! Thanks again to everyone reading for commenting and engaging with the blog, it means a lot to the team. Day three was a little different for me compared to the first two days because I was put in a counseling station as opposed to something managerial (like filling prescriptions or taking vitals). I’ve been on the trip before and done counseling in the past, but it had been like two years so I was pretty nervous. Thankfully I was paired with a great translator (Emily) who helped fill in gaps and reword things when I was communicating with the people in the villages we visited.
The whole day was great but emotionally exhausting, as me and Emily had 7-8 people in a row in our station. Additionally the triage station (taking vitals) got backed up so I got called over to help with that in the middle of it. While I was really tired and stressed out by the things going on, I couldn’t help but still feel joy in the midst of all of it.
A lady let me hold her 10-day old baby, whose name was Joshua. The kids in the village followed me around and begged for piggy-back rides. We ended up leading someone to Christ who knew nothing of him.
That day represented the core concept of the trip entirely: being filled with the joy of the Lord amidst trial and exhaustion. I’m sure if you asked anyone else on the trip they would tell you the same thing about it.
Some prayer requests I have for the people reading would be for health, overall togetherness of the team, and peace in the hearts of any other nervous servants.

thank you for the wonderful updates. We are so proud of you all and will pray for health and team unity as requested.
indeed, how beautiful to experience The Lord’s peace and joy in the midst of difficulty.
love,
mom claxton

Son, we sure do love you and miss you. Last night I was putting leftover pizza away and thought, “Will is going to devour this before tomorrow” and then quickly remembered that you aren’t here. Don’t worry, we’ll get you and the boys more when back home. On a more serious note, I prayed yesterday morning for God to place you outside of your comfort zone so you had to rely on His strength as you serve and not your own – and man do I now see He showed up big for you! Praise God for a new believer and thank God for your obedience and willingness to be the hands of feet of Jesus while finding joy in the journey even while tired and stressed. He is faithful, He is Immanuel (which means?? Remember our advent devotional?❤️) and oh how He loves you more than me which is hard for me to imagine. We are so proud of you buddy. Keep going. Keep being stretched. Keep walking worthy of His calling on your life. And, keep having fun on this epic adventure!!! See you in a couple days!!! Love, Mom

Thank you so much for sharing, Will! I praise God that all of you are finding joy in the trials and exhaustion. God is so good to put us in situations where we need Him desperately. I thank God that He was with you through a busy time and used you to lead someone to Christ. God is so good. Keep listening to the Holy Spirit! Sometimes He whispers, but He will guide and direct you! I am praying for health, togetherness, and peace. Jesus is near to all of you! Vance, we love and miss you! 🥰

Will,
Hey there – this is your father speaking… I am SO proud of you!!!
Your blog write-up was great, but what I really liked about it was the way that I can see God is moving in you and through you. I am so proud of the way you’re serving and leading others to Christ. Continue to do the work and see it through all the way to the end of the week. Help lift up your teammates when they need it and do it all with joy. God has you and the rest of the team right where he needs you this week! I love you son.
Vance – Nice blog the other day and happy belated birthday old man!!! Your blog really resonated with me as I remember having similar feelings before working at counseling stations. Look how God has stretched you outside of your comfort zone for his glory?! Way to go!
Lastly, I have a question for David… you don’t have to give the answer out loud but who was your favorite roommate in Guatemala trips of yesteryear?
A. Nate
B. Mr. Langmack
C. Will, Laura, and Cooper’s Dad
D. All of the above
To the team… keep doing amazing work – you are all loved and being prayed for daily!
