North Carolina Day 3

Today our teams split between the crisis center and the community center for another full day of serving.

Our middle school team jumped in right away at the crisis center, helping sort more than 1,000 pounds of donated food from local partners like Walmart, Whole Foods, and Chick-fil-A. They also helped fill and pack orders as they came in, making sure families received what they needed.

Meanwhile, our high school team returned to the community center and continued the work they started earlier in the week by organizing, cleaning, and improving the space for the people who use it every day.

In the afternoon, both teams came together at Veterans Healing Farm, a nonprofit that serves veterans through agritherapy. Students shoveled compost, planted dahlias, mulched, and tackled a variety of projects to help prepare the farm for the upcoming season.

We’re so proud of how hard our students have worked this week and even more proud of the way they’ve encouraged and supported one another along the way. Our work week is officially complete, and we’re looking forward to some fun together tomorrow morning before heading home tomorrow.

“Today felt like we were an actual team instead of doing things separately. Like when a leader told us to do things, we did it together, we did it right, and helped each other improve to make it perfect.” – Logan

“Today I was amazed by some of the new things we did at the crisis management center. On Tuesday I only spent half the day at the crisis center so when I arrived I felt that I was more so in the way than helping but today I felt that I was doing something that needed to be done and wouldn’t be done or wasn’t being done by others. Me and Logan sorted and packed food bags as well as fulfilled food orders. It was really fun and I also felt, like Logan, that we were more of a team today than we had been the past two days.” -Olivia
