Second Clinic Day and Megan’s Story

Today we drove south to a town called Masagua. It’s very different than Guatemala City or the other villages we’ll visit this week. It’s close to sea level (we were only a few miles from the beach), and hot. The “feels like” temperature was 105 during the afternoon.

It was our busiest day yet, with nearly 80 patients seen. Our team was focused and energetic all day. They continue to impress us with their maturity, flexibility, and love for the people we meet.

Todays’s story is from Megan with help from Copeland and Peyton.

Today, I was a runner. Meaning I had to help people get where they needed to go. Part of being a runner is greeting people and engaging in conversations. Today, my heart went out to the people we helped. I felt extremely moved to hear about their situations and to see what they were going through. The kids were drinking dark, murky water, and their teeth were in poor condition, and the living situations they had are completely different from what I could ever imagine. And yet, as I greeted these people they still found it in themselves to smile, and to spread their positivity.

Although, there was a language barrier, it was not difficult to see that they had a shining light inside of them, which was infectious. However, even though they were smiling and laughing I felt a heavy burden on my heart for them and their living situations. I couldn’t stop thinking about how unfair it was. I thought it was unfair that we get to live in air conditioned houses with running water and beds to sleep in. But, most of these people don’t have any of that. It really makes you realize how much we take for granted.

But, I felt bad that I couldn’t do more. I wanted to offer these people more than what I was capable of. And it hurts my heart that this is their normal. It hurts that this is all they’ve ever known. Yet, still through all the pain and all the suffering they still managed to spread their unconditional love and kindness to me and the rest of the team.

I truly believe that the Lord is working through not just us, but also the people of Guatemala. They are helping us to see that you don’t need modern conveniences to truly connect with the Lord. When listening to everyone during the debrief tonight. I saw that the positivity of these people moved not just me, but the whole Fellowship team.

  1. Megan’s story was so beautiful! It moved me to tears. Gratefulness and humility are so beautiful and we see so little of that where we live. May God sear our hearts with both gratefulness and humility as you continue to minister and we hear your stories! May we serve Him here, too. Praying for breezes from God to remind you of how You are blessing Him by loving and serving His Children.

  2. Megan,
You told your story in a heartfelt and descriptive way. I would feel the same as you- wanting to do more to help these people with their needs.
We pray for each of you on the team to continue to share and experience God’s love while you all are there.

  6. What great wisdom learned! We love seeing you all push yourselves and grow in new ways over the course of the week as you do hard things, new things, and uncomfortable things. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus this week. We are praying for your safety and continued blessing over the impact you are making!

  7. Wow, you kids are doing such wonderful things!! I agree with you, Megan. It all seems so unfair, but realize we live in a fallen world. So things on Earth will be unfair. That’s why Heaven will be so glorious!! Until then, you kiddos and adults are being such a blessing by spreading the Good News in word and deeds. Our cups run over so we can give our time, talent and tokens to lost sheep (as well as our sister and brothers in Christ). Continue to be bold and know you are the salt and light!
